Drei Zinnen Nature Park
Impressive: Animals, plants, mountains
The nature park stretches over almost 12,000 hectare and over the regions Sexten, Innichen and Toblach and is one of UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritages. Here you will find, among other things, the world-famous Drei Zinnen massif (“Three Pinnacles”) in South Tyrol.
The Drei Zinnen
The impressive “Drei Zinnen” (Tre Cime di Lavaredo) rock formation is located only 20km away from Innichen. To climb all the way up to the top of one of the pinnacles is on top of most alpine climbers’ list during a holiday in Hochpustertal, South Tyrol.
From Toblach and Sexten you have access to the Nature Park, where the Drei Zinnen, with an altitude of 2,999m, welcome you already from afar. The unique walls attract not only climbing enthusiasts – Dolomite Alps’ landmark is a true sight for everyone, who spends a holiday on the Dolomite Alps in South Tyrol.
Apart from the prominent rock formation you will find a wide range of other beauties in the Nature Park:
Plants and rock world
Take a walk through a world of limestone – the world of the “pale mountains” – and along the way you will discover the Sextner flora including the Dolomite Alps’ foxglove, crocus, bluebell or the yellow yarrow.
Ornithologists can look forward to seeing the black woodpecker or the Tengmalm’s owl, but the highlight is without a doubt the regional eagle.
Historians can discover rusting pieces of shrapnel from the 1st World War in the rocks, a time when the mountain range between Italy and Austria was a battleground. A monument for warriors was built in 1928 on the way to Patersattel, south of the big pinnacle. The Alpine Chapel dates also back to that time.
Swimming in the natural lake
The turquoise-coloured Lake Dürrensee at the foot of Monte Piana (2,324m) invites you to a refreshing break in summery Höhlensteintal after a long mountain tour.
Enjoy the beautiful natural environment around the Drei Zinnen in South Tyrol and go through the Nature Park on your mountain bike or relax during an outdoor picnic in the green landscapes.
