Innichen, the town in South Tyrol of real Italian charm
The unique pedestrian area in the market town of Innichen in Hochpustertal invites you to a lovely stroll and browse at ease. Let yourself be drawn in by the magic of the picturesque centre of the town and while away a sunny afternoon over a cup of coffee. In the small shops you will find regional specialities that come directly from local suppliers. With about 3,300 inhabitants, everything is quieter and more cheerful here in Innichen. People like to stop and talk and help each other out. And never out of sight is the view of the steep mountains that rise around the town of Hochpustertal in South Tyrol - between Lienz and Bruneck.
The tastefully decorated windows of the shops invite you to peer in, while the historic architecture, particularly the Romanesque church in the centre, invites you to go on a cultural sightseeing tour. In winter, instead, you can enjoy the very special atmosphere of Christmas in the Dolomites at Innichen.
A paradise for mountaineers
The Dolomites are the perfect destination! Spectacular peaks, majestic views and wild romantic landscapes: indescribable experiences await you in the mountains of South Tyrol around Innichen.
The mountains in the Three Peaks National Park are famous among climbers all around the world. In summer, Dreischusterspitze and Mount Paterno are high on the to-do list of mountaineers and rock climbers. From Innichen, however, there are tours in all directions. What is certain is that Hotel Leitlhof for hikers is the ideal starting place for all mountain sports. Cartographic materials, tips for excursions to suit all tastes and trekking equipment such as sticks and backpacks can all be found at the hotel. Hermann, our hotel hiking guide, also offers four guided hikes per week, all year round, and is always available to answer questions and give information about excursions in South Tyrol.
Innichen in winter
There are seven different ski areas around Innichen. In winter, the family-friendly descents and even the more challenging slopes ensure fun and excitement at all levels of difficulty. The ski lift station at the centre of Innichen marks the base of the family-friendly ski area of the Haunold. The ski bus can then take you quickly and easily to other lifts, like those of the ski area of the Sexten Dolomites-Helm-Hohe Gaisl. There is a total of 93 km of slopes around Innichen, including 12 km of black runs (at a gradient of 70%, the "Holzriese" slope is the steepest in Italy), 43 km of red runs and 38 km of blue runs. In other words: there is something for skiing champions as well as for families, who can have fun together with their children. There will soon also be a link between the Sexten Dolomites ski area and the ski areas of Thurntaler, Sillian and Comelico, greatly increasing the number of kilometres of slopes within easy reach at any one time.
Another treat not to be missed in the winter is the hike from the starting point of the Haunold sledding slope, which you can also reach by chairlift. From Hotel Leitlhof, the starting point of this hike is just a 10-minute walk away - or you can use the hotel's shuttle bus.
For a comfortable and enjoyable holiday, we recommend taking the chairlift up the Haunold, the mountain of Innichen, opposite Hotel Leitlhof. A leisurely hike or a fun toboggan ride down to the valley (with the Fun-bob in the summer, or on a traditional run in winter) can make for a truly special day of adventure during your stay in Innichen.
There are also mountain huts where hikers and ramblers can rest and enjoy the specialities of South Tyrol, and take in majestic mountain views from a sunny terrace.
