Balloon festival, Snow Sculptures, Ski Marathon and Alpine Trail
There are events to suit all tastes in January in the Hochpustertal. Immediately after the New Year celebrations, the Balloon Festival in Toblach gives you the chance to fly away above the picturesque Dolomites of the Hochpustertal: a really special adventure.
At around the same time the International Snow Festival takes place in Innichen. Inspired by the motto "Winter Art - Sculptures from Snow" artists arrive from all over the world equipped with saws, shovels, ear muffs and gloves create imaginative shapes, sculptures, forms and bodies. These impressive works of art dominate the village throughout the winter and give pleasure to visitors and locals, especially when they are illuminated at night.
One challenge for all cross-country skiers is the Pustertaler Ski Marathon, which for almost 40 years has passed through the districts of Toblach, Niederdorf, Prags, Innichen and Sexten. For the next edition, the organisers have gone back to their roots, offering a classic 60 km course, a new development for cross-country skiing races in South Tyrol.
The Alpentrail dog sled race is not to be missed either. It has become a tradition in the Hochpustertal and involves dog sled teams covering about 300 km in 7 stages. The event is one of the most important European middle distance races for sled dogs. This magnificent spectacle in the Country of the Three Peaks (Drei Zinnen) is fully booked a long time in advance and the mass start of over 60 teams in Sexten already promises to be an unforgettable sight.
You would like to experience one of these events at first hand? We look forward to your enquiries.
