2017: International Year of Sustainable Tourism
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has taken over the patronage of the Year of Sustainable Tourism and is trying to sensitize travelers to sustainable travel through various initiatives.
In the decision the United Nations refers to the Rio + 20 summit. In the final document, "The future we want," the United Nations states that "well-designed and managed tourism can make a significant contribution to sustainable development in its three dimensions, is closely linked to other sectors, and creates decent jobs and trade opportunities Can be generated. "
In addition, in September 2015, Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development was adopted with the specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which also refer to "sustainable tourism".
The expulsion of the year was justified, among other things, with the importance of tourism for international understanding and the appreciation of other cultures. Sustainable tourism also serves as an instrument for the abolition of poverty, for the protection of the environment, for improving the quality of life and for the economic strengthening of women and young people.
We at the Leitlhof intend to celebrate the year of sustainable tourism in a particularly dignified way and to make additional contributions through targeted initiatives.
