The sixth Messner Mountain Museum opened at Corones
The last Messner Mountain Museum has opened the 24th July 2015 and is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm. It lies on 2.275 m at Corones and is therefore the highest museum of South Tirol. Corones is the largest ski mountain of South Tyrol and it is ideal for hiking in summer. The new Messner Mountain Museum creates an additional attraction for winter and summer. The museum was designed by the world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid. Subject of the museum is the traditional alpinism, by which Messner has been decisively influenced. Objects, images and tools from Reinhold Messner’s life as a mountaineer will illustrate the subject. Reinhold Messner is one of the most famous mountaineers in the world and he ascended as first mountaineer all “eight-thousands” (mountains which are higher than 8000 meter). His experience as mountaineer is reflected in his museums.
