Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park

Underway in the Prags Dolomites in South Tyrol

This nature park stretches over almost 26,000 hectare in the middle of the South Tyrolean Dolomite Alps. In the fascinating nature world between Abtei, Prags, Toblach, Wengen, Enneberg and Olach you will walk through alpine areas and plateaus, you will meet the alpine fauna and relax on various nature lakes. Take a hike through one of the 8 South Tyrolean nature reservoirs!

A picnic at the lake Pragser Wildsee will positively stick in your memory for a long time, just like a small hike along the Dolomite high route, which runs through the nature park. And on the Fanes or Sennes high plateau you can thoroughly relax at 2,000 metres.

Fascination nature

Hobby geologists and botanists will be greatly delighted with the typical Dolomite landscapes and floral variety.

Steep rock formations surround the area’s plateaus and make for the fascination of the South Tyrolean natural environment. The draws, crevasses and sinkholes characterise the landscapes in the Fanes-Sennes-Prags reservoir. Cold and fresh water bubbles out of various ravines and makes the spring moss luxuriate. You will also find perfect refreshment in between at the crystal-clear creeks.

In the often hard accessible mountain areas and rough areas, mixed coniferous forests often develop best. Be enchanted by the steep rocks! On the rustic and hosted alps you can relax afterwards with traditional delicacies.

Fascination fauna

Experience the “World of fauna” in the mountain forests, high plateaus or steep rocks.

During autumn the deep rut singing of the rare red deer roars through the forests and if you are lucky enough, you can even hear the cracking sound of the antlers during a rivalling fight. In the twilight you should keep your eyes open for foxes, badgers, martens or hazel and wood grouse.

Black grouse and Alpine hare live at higher altitudes, at the alpine tree line, and on the meadows, especially around the Plätzwiese. You can listen to the cute marmots or discover a chamois, while the golden eagle is wheeling over the nature’s wonder that is Fanes-Sennes-Prags.
